I carry a knife on me & if I go into my old neighborhood to visit my old friends, there is "something" in the glove box as well.

People get mugged and stuff around here too much, so I carry a knife on me, and carry it in my hand when I am walking around at night alone or downtown.

I roamed the NYC subways for 3+ years and never got searched, and I was always dressed like what older people call a 'hooligan'. And I'm female.

I ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS carry either a knife (when I have one) or an Exacto razor (in a pinch). I have every reason to do so; stuff doesn't just happen at 3am in Brooklyn. I've been attacked in the middle of Manhattan at 42nd and 8th Ave.

I considered for a really long time going to get a concealed license, but then I always remind myself that I hate guns. My lawyer suggested it, but I'd rather go take a bangin' ninja class or something and only need my fists.

I sometimes carry a folding razor knife. I'm a maintence man and it's a handy tool. Use it almost daily...to clean my figernails

I live in one of the lowest crime areas in Oregon so defense is not an issue.

I have never carried a weapon around before and I'm not going to in the future. For me, that would be the ultimate sign of not feeling safe in my environment. I think it's also due to it not being the norm in my home country, though. Lots of people here just don't own or carry guns. I didn't grow up with the idea that I'd ever need one.

I carry a small pocket knife. Although to be honest, I think of it more as a tool for opening stubborn packages than a weapon, but I suppose it could be one.

I think it definitely is a cultural thing. I was raised around guns, knives, the works for sport and protection. It was as normal to see a weapon as it was to see furniture in the living room for me.

Thanks for your perspective.

*Nods*

When I worked for a publishing co., we were forever opening and closing boxes, and even after they bought a ten pack of box cutters, they all disappeared within a week (makes me wonder if for whatever reason someone was keeping them, but whatever, they were still gone).

My pocket knife got a lot of use during the two years I worked there.

Mass hysteria and mass complacency are flip sides of the same coin. Never panic, always think for yourself. Question all information, even from those individuals and sources you hold most cherished, for in those instances, complacency and hysteria alike become all too easy. All information either comes from humans or is filtered through the human mind (our own or another's) and thus subject to human faults no matter if it comes from a scientist or a messiah. Question it. And constantly question yourself.

This is how I was raised too. My parents/grandparents kept firearms in their homes, and I was taught how to handle them/shoot/be responsible at a young age. Hell, my mother to this day keeps a snubnose revolver in her purse.

I come from a line of (strangely, very liberal) gun nuts.
