*rolls eyes* That's like saying that since every fourth Swede is actually immune to HIV Swedish people shouldn't worry about condoms if the man is circumsized since... according to such numbers it's more like a 0.0008% chance you'll contract the virus. (Unless you are one of those 2 million + people who happen to have the gene, then it's all boink away)
HOWEVER, there are other STI's and... sure, they can be cured, but why take the risk?

You don't give statistics to kids because how many kids understands statistics? Just because the risk might be small doesn't mean it's there. You don't tell people the statistics of drinking and driving leading to accidents, do you? You just say "don't drink and drive".

Arguing about not giving statistics means you have to give statistics across the board. Tell girls and boys that most rapes and assaults on women comes from people she knows... no worries... walk alone at night. You're in more danger in your own home anyway.

Locally they're planning on cutting four elementary schools, across the nation we hear about colleges and other institutions increasing tuition because of education budget cuts, on the news they're talking about cutting school days from four to five because of budget cuts. If you haven't seen it yourself, you don't have far to look for a news story talking about education cuts.

Now can someone tell me WHY we are doing this? Where is the intelligence in making our education WORSE than it already is? Why are we firing teachers? Why are we determined to output less college grads by increasing tuition costs? WHY WHY WHY? How will our children compete in a global future economy if we keep handicapping them by cutting their education funding?

Anyone have a good answer? Anyone want to take the time to educate me a little?


ETA: The reason I have (USA) in the title is, as an American, the US is the only place I've heard this happening. I'm sure it may be happening elsewhere as well.
